Integrity Key to Journalistic Excellence, Says Sir Dr. Nico Halle

July 11, 2025, marked another significant day for the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (Camasej), Douala Chapter, as the association’s national patron, Sir Dr. Barrister Nico Halle, hosted the newly installed Executive Committee of Camasej-D, headed by Ndih Maureen.

In his address to the Exco, Sir Dr. Barrister Nico Halle welcomed and congratulated Ndih Maureen on her re-election for a second term, commending her bravery and efforts that had kept the chapter active over the past four years. He encouraged President Maureen and her new team to maintain the same momentum.

The National Patron delivered a keynote speech on integrity, emphasizing the importance of leaders and journalists upholding their integrity in all situations.

He stressed that a leader without integrity is worthless. Sir Dr. Nico Halle also cautioned the new team against disinformation and misinformation, defining disinformation as the deliberate spread of false information to sabotage, and misinformation as the publication of information without proper investigation or fact-finding. Given the proximity of the 2025 presidential election, he urged the bureau to be vigilant in avoiding these pitfalls.

President Maureen in her speech outlined a series of action plans for members of her association, both before and after the presidential election. Notably, a workshop on political reporting, focusing on gathering and disseminating information during election periods, is scheduled for August.

According to President Maureen, this workshop aims to equip young journalists who will be covering the presidential election for the first time with the necessary skills.

The July 11 gathering was also an opportunity for the National Patron to facilitate a reconciliation between Lasha Kingsley and Maureen Ndih, who had a falling out after the 2019 Camasej national elections.

Veteran journalist Joe Dinga Perfork of The Post Newspaper recounts that CAMASEJ-D was birthed thanks to the massive contribution of Sir Dr. Barrister Nico Halle, who linked up with him to scout for journalists to establish what is today known as CAMASEJ-D, which is why the national patron is close to the chapter.
