CAMASEJ-D engages Douala University students in media exchange

In commemoration of World Press Freedom Day 2025, the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists, Douala Chapter (CAMASEJ-D), held an enlightening exchange session with students from the University of Douala on May 2, 2025. The initiative, organized under the global theme “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media,” provided a platform for budding journalists to interact with seasoned professionals and gain firsthand insights into the evolving landscape of journalism.

The event brought together prominent media personalities including Tessa Baks, Gabriel Njikang, popularly known as Mr. Ambassador, Emmanualla nyoki sadey, Maureen Ndih president of Camasej D,awah micaha,bibians,williams and Oni Ladonette Ondesa, amongst others. These speakers engaged students in discussions covering key topics such as specialization in journalism, the growing influence of artificial intelligence on the media, and the unique challenges young journalists face within newsrooms today.

Throughout the session, students were not only exposed to the opportunities within the industry but were also made aware of the pressing realities and hurdles journalists must navigate. Tessa Baks, emphasized the importance of ethical reporting and continuous skill development, especially in a rapidly digitalizing world. Mr. Ambassador, shared inspiring anecdotes from his career, encouraging students to embrace adaptability and resilience. Meanwhile, Oni Ladonette Ondesa highlighted the increasing demand for niche expertise and the critical role young journalists can play in shaping narratives within specialized fields.

Participants, who came in their numbers, in the presence of their academic professors, described the exchange as eye-opening and inspiring, with many expressing a renewed commitment to their journalistic aspirations.
